Spring Sproutings 🎍🌱🌼 With a constant vi Spring Sproutings 🎍🌱🌼

With a constant vigilance for what intuitively feels right and natural, life aligns by itself.

//
Garden of Life
💚
Different plants thrive in different seasons. Some grow well with certain plants and not with certain others. Some plants grow well in certain soils and not in others. Some plants grow slow, some fast. A natural law and harmony guides so that all the diversity can flourish.

In the human way, we insert 'should's and 'shouldn't's and fail to see the natural flow. Blame, guilt and expectations stifle joyful movement. Authority and imposed hierarchy when going beyond their utilitarian function, can be one of the most oppressive elements in the system.

Allowing a natural intelligence or discernment to guide means 'looking' beyond what 'looks' right or true or 'looks' like happiness, love or even compassion... and looking through to the essence...

Listening for sensitivity beyond emotion, wisdom beyond intellect.

Saraswati, of Flow  Creativity, wisdom, inspirat Saraswati, of Flow

Creativity, wisdom, inspiration are associated with flow and water. Saraswati, ‘one who flows’, represents these, symbolic of the creative and illuminating powers.

In the Rig Veda, she is described as the ‘best of rivers' and ‘best of mothers’- birthing, nourishing, and removing the sufferings of humanity; as the Great Wave- flowing as universal wisdom; as the great flood of illumination- awakening inherent wisdom and creativity.

She is associated with poetry, arts, writing, higher wisdom, insight and discernment. Characteristic of artists and intellectuals, Saraswati is decribed as independent, aloof...and a tad irritable!

Many symbolisms from ancient Indian culture describe the phenomenal world in a way that aligns with our experience, helps us discriminate true from false and opens windows into deeper insights.

Happy Basant Panchami🌼 (springtime festival of Saraswati)

On Ma Ganga💙:

Every time I’ve visited the Ganga at Rishikesh, I’ve felt the unmistakeable embrace of her beautiful presence. A presence which is gentle yet powerful, light yet commanding, playful, mothering and full of wisdom….
and most of all - Alive.

A new blog post (link in bio) with a short video tribute to Mother Ganga on this day of Mauni Amavasya considered important for a dip in her nectarian waters.

If you’d like join in on an initiative to share river stories - your personal accounts of how these ancient mothers have touched your lives, send me a DM📩😊 Thank you @ayrinany for reigniting my inspiration for this. As wonderful initiatives like #RallyforRivers by @sadhguru and #NamamiGange help to save dying rivers, I feel that we should not only work from a survival instinct, but also with the love in our hearts for these most primal givers of life.💕 Many Indian rivers were declared "living entities" by law in recent years, yet their 'livingness' aspect is not enough appreciated and celebrated in my view...

//
Ganga’s waters are the current of life- materially, culturally and spiritually. They are always calling, calling…. What for? To merge, to surrender, coaxing a spontaneous letting go of our sufferings... and celebrating Life as an ever-fresh flow.
🌊☀️

//
A sweet poem by the 17th century Indian poet, Jagannatha who sought refuge in Mother Ganga:

“I come to you as a child to his mother.

I come as an orphan to you, moist with love.

I come without refuge to you, giver of sacred rest.

I come a fallen man to you, uplifter of all.

I come undone by disease to you, the perfect physician.

I come, my heart dry with thirst, to you, ocean of sweet wine.

Do with me whatever you will.”

[A new blog post]

Most beautiful story by Mooji of a rare humility, integrity and devotion.

My Master Sings Only for God (Saint Haridas)❤

“A long time ago, there was a great emperor called Akbar. Amongst the many people in service to this emperor, there was a great musician called Tansen. He was so well known for his music and when he played and sang it is said that the people’s hearts would be so full of love and joy and appreciation and the emperor himself would be so pleased. It is said that even the clouds would become full of water and shower rain on the land. It was so exquisite…if you can imagine…

One day, the emperor called Tansen and said, “Tansen, your music is so beautiful. I would like to find out—who did you learn from? Who taught you this?”

So Tansen said, “My Master lives in the forest a long way away. He’s a very simple man. He doesn’t sing for just anybody.”

The emperor was very surprised, “I want to go listen to him. Can we go see him?’

So Tansen said, ‘Yes my lord, you can come but I cannot guarantee anything…”

So off they went, just the two of them. Akbar was disguised as a regular man. They came to the saint’s abode. He was sitting outside with his instruments. Tansen himself knew that his Master, Haridas (meaning ‘servant of God’) was very very pure-hearted and just won’t sing because you ask him to sing. He’s not this type of musician.

So what happened was that Tansen himself started to sing and he deliberately made a mistake in his singing. So Haridas, the Master said “O Tansen…don’t sing like that…” and he began himself to sing. And he sang…it was so exquisite, so beautiful! Nobody had heard him sing like this.

So on the way home, they’re travelling and Akbar says to Tansen, “You are such a great singer but how comes your Master is so much better than you? How is he sooo much better than you?”

So Tansen said, “You see my lord,… I am a musician in your court. I must sing for the emperor. But my Master……He sings only for God.”

Hearing this, the emperor’s heart became very quiet.

(Contd below)

*****

‘When various notes are played or sung by the musician,
if you keep your attention fixed on the sruti, i.e., the accompanying tambur or harmonium with its monotone alone,
it will not be distracted by the diverse notes or tunes;
similarly, in the world which is nothing but sense-perceptions,
keep attuned to the sruti,
the one Reality alone,
and your inner awareness will remain undisturbed.’

~ Sri Ramana Maharshi
🙏
//
Most commonly, ‘Shruti’ and ‘Smriti’ are understood as referring to ‘that which is heard’ (the unchanging Truth as the Vedas communicate) and ‘that which is remembered’ (based on the Shruti). The Guru’s Grace shows the deeper meaning...

//
This year closes out on an  auspicious note with Dattatreya Jayanti, a full moon in Ardra (Margashirsha Purnima) and Sri Ramana Maharshi’s Jayanti, following each other.

Sri Dattatreya, the Avadhut is also the Adi Guru. Like Bhagvan Ramana Maharshi (whose guru was the holy mountain Arunachala), he didn’t have a particular human guru but actually identified 24 gurus, all aspects of nature (from the earth and sky, to a spider and sparrow).

Of Yoga & Nature🌿 . This week, 3 years ago, I c Of Yoga & Nature🌿
.
This week, 3 years ago, I completed my yoga teacher's training at Sivananda ashram in Kerala. My last course of study before that was at a business school in France, located in the environs of a forest and I found it a bit surreal to have gone from studying at a business school in a French forest, to studying ancient yoga and Vendanta philosophy in an Indian forest.

The beauty of Kerala was amplified by knowing that the area where I was staying was where the great sage Sri Adi Shankaracharya had been born. Also unbeknownst to me was the fact that Swami Sivananda belonged to the Saraswati sampradaya (lineage) set up by Shankara- the deep affinity I hold with the goddess of wisdom and art had no doubt worked in mysterious ways.
.
This time of the year always brings me to my yoga practice in some way. To cooperate with nature in its hibernation but also to oppose it with a little human petulance is the tension perhaps of life-making 😊
.
Sharing an excerpt from my book 'From Dior to Dharma' (available on Amazon) where I expressed my love of the vibrant aliveness of the forests of South India:

"October is not a fallen month in South India. Unlike in temperate lands, there is no surrendering of the leaves first to non-verdant hues and eventually to the ground. The trees don’t avert their gaze like they do in Paris in autumn, embarrassed by their state of undress. On the contrary, with the worst of the summer heat beaten into retreat and rain clouds standing on guard, ready to burst when needed, Nature seems to run amuck, setting the environment afire with life, creating a flora as intense and flavourful as the South Indian curries. In fact with plump jackfruits lazing on tree-tops, the excitement of pepper vines bursting into tropical fragrance, chili plants trampling aggressively over weeds, and coconut trees stumbling drunkenly into every other plant and tree around, one beholds, smells and almost tastes an uncooked curry of a forest. Unlike the faded and often insipid hues of much higher latitudes, Mother Nature here, sweating with inspiration in the humid warmth, pushes colours to their most vibrant extremes...."

Which one can we really not talk about?  In this, Which one can we really not talk about?
In this, they are cleverly the same.
Thought and perception we link in play
But never can we link the “I”…

A Delicate Dance of Contradiction

Sometimes it feels that ‘Reality’ can’t be spoken about and sometimes it feels the ‘relative’ can’t - that it is just a flow happening by itself.

Yet sometimes both are attempted to be spoken about.

Sometimes, without realising it, those of us who listen to Advaita may begin to adopt it into a lifestyle; for example we may mistake an inner non-reaction for an outer passivity. An active “inner” and “outer” discrimination must be... Not to dismiss the ‘relative’ or see it with “Advaitic” eyes but to feel our intuition, learn the language of the vital force and allow our lives to be an expression of Truth, Beauty and Love.

Otherwise we may even fall asleep in “All is the expression of the Divine”.
How quickly insights turn from realisations to beliefs!

In ancient traditions like the Vedantic and Zen, so much emphasis was laid on Dharma in “the way of life”. An embrace and upliftment of the dynamic play; a recognition that though all actions are of the Divine, some are more beautiful and wise than others, some more just and loving. This work, this life-making is never-ending...

Adi Shankaracharya, the great sage and teacher, who spoke the purest Advaita can seem like a contradiction for simultaneously composing some of the most beautiful hymns of devotion to Krishna, Shiva and Devi. Or the Vishishtha Advaita school and the Pancaratra describing the forms of Vishnu though the Supreme Being remains unaltered.

Nothing makes a difference to the Truth but the Truth makes a difference to things.

Your conditionings don’t matter to the Self but the Self will not let you remain blind to your conditionings.

A fully individual experience it must be, to realise the Universal.

Such beautiful contradictions…and on the edge of them, the play of life is born.💖

Hold fast to the Power of the One
It will unify the body and merge it with the spirit
It will cleanse the vision and reveal the world as flawless
It will focus the life-force and make one supple as a newborn

As you love the people and rule the state can you be free of self-interest?
As the gates of Heaven open and close can you remain steadfast as the mother bird
who sits on her nest?
As your wisdom reaches the four corners of the world can you keep the innocence of a beginner?

Know this Primal Power that guides without forcing,
that serves without seeking
that brings forth and sustains life
yet does not own or possess it.
One who holds this Power brings Tao to this very Earth
He can triumph over a raging fire or the freeze of winter weather
Yet when he comes to rule the world,
it’s with the gentleness of a feather

Yoga Vasishtha🙏🌺 But O Rama, we are beyond c Yoga Vasishtha🙏🌺
But O Rama, we are beyond confusion. Changes in the unchanging are imagined by ignorant and deluded people; but in the vision of sages who have self-knowledge, no change whatsoever has taken place in consciousness.

When the notion of an external knowable has been removed, self-knowledge arises; and when in it there is the notion of inertia or ignorance, the state of deep sleep has come to it. Hence, since consciousness alone exists at all times, it may be said that space exists and does not exist, the world exists and does not exist.

Even as heat is to fire, whiteness is to a conch-shell, firmness is to a mountain, liquidity is to water, butter is to milk, coolness is to ice, brightness is to illumination, oil is to mustard seed, flow is to a river, sweetness is to honey, ornament is to gold, aroma is to a flower - the universe is to consciousness. The world exists because consciousness is: and the world is the body of consciousness. There is no division, no difference, no distinction. Hence the universe can be said to be both real and unreal; real because of the reality of consciousness which is its own reality, and unreal because the universe does not exist as universe, independent of consciousness.

But, because of the unreality of the universe, etc., it cannot be said that its own cause, namely, the consciousness, is also unreal: such a statement would only be a set of words with no meaning - for it runs counter to our experience, and the existence of consciousness cannot be denied.

Zen teaches that if you have mind, you have a prob Zen teaches that if you have mind, you have a problem. If you don't have mind, then everything is no hindrance. But everybody makes mind, so there are many problems in this world. Say you own a hotel. Mind is like this hotel's manager, who should be working for you. Usually, everything is OK in the hotel, but this manager is always causing problems: 'I want this, I want that.' 'I like this, I don't like that.' 'I want to be free, go here, do that...' That is mind, OK?
The Buddha taught, 'When mind appears, dharma appears. When dharma appears, form appears. When form appears, then like/dislike, coming/going, life and death, everything appears. ' So if you have mind, you have a problem; no mind, no problem. Here are some very popular words: 'Everything is created by mind alone.' These are good words; they have a good taste. Your mind makes something, and something hinders you. So don't make anything! Take your mind and throw it into the garbage. Only don't know!

When we stop fighting so much, stop trying to chan When we stop fighting so much, stop trying to change things, stop trying to make things happen and we let go, depending on God, on consciousness, on the Absolute Reality, then God will pull you through.
In other words, you become Self-realised.
But as long as you rely on one person, place or thing, then you're alone fighting your battles.
This is why true spirituality is not for everyone. For most people are not ready to let go of everything. They still want to hold onto things.
So they get involved in various meditations, pranayamas, kundalini, tantra, not realising all these things come from your mind. They're all mental things and they will never lead you to Self-realisation. They will only increase the size of your ego.

So true spiritual life is very easy. You just need to surrender, let go of everything. Take refuge in the Buddha or the Self or Consciousness, whatever you like to call it. It's all names.
And you take refuge in this by not allowing the world to make you feel anything. As long as the world makes you feel something good or bad, you're worldly and you have battles to fight. But when good and bad never impresses you again, then you're free.
Only you can make that choice.

Eradicate from your mind that you are some particu Eradicate from your mind that you are some particular "I". That is the sign of "knowledge". He who says, "I am the one who experiences" is swallowed by Rahu and still remains within the illusion.
.

It is the hand that lifts, but you say "I lift". The eyes see but you say "I see". The nose smells, but you say "I smell". All this is the power of the Self and yet you say, "I did it". That power belongs to God. Who is this ego arrogating "I"? He has no place in the palace, but once admitted inside, he overrules the king and affirms his own existence.
